1st Day of Home School

Yesterday was our first official day of home school. My 11 year old left public school 4th grade to explore the wide world of unschooling. She decided she wanted to learn to cook. She got out 2 cookbooks, read through them, found what she wanted to make, and went to it.
She used math to measure out her ingredients...
She rolled the dough into balls to cover in colored sugar that she made ahead of time with food coloring.
With the oven preheated, Kyla fills the cookie sheet with doughy rainbow sugar balls.
At around 3:30 our neighbor got home from school and had a blast helping finish up the cookie project!!!
I know it won't always be as easy as the first two days have been, but right now I am so happy. My kid is excited about learning again! Today she decided she wanted to learn about the state of Nevada and mummies. We went to the library, checked out books on these subjects and she is eagerly reading them as I post this blog. READING!!!! Without being asked!!!!

Oh wow I didn't realize that you were taking her out and unschooling! WTG mama :) I hope you guys grow and learn together and that it continues to be a great transition.
(I am secretly hoping Nova hates kindergarten...i planned to unschool but she is adament about trying school first *sob*)
